The Co. is the small in house restaurant of the business hotel De Empressa on Kyd Street, serving some of the best mouth watering South East Asian delicacies. Their sushi & California rolls are inarguably the best you can get on a budget in Kolkata. I had been to the place first time about three months back, even before they had formally opened to try out the menu. Recently they invited group PanchPhoron over to try out the special menu, & I am happy to share a short review of the same.

Let's be honest, I'm a foodie, a true blue one. If I can, I will stuff that n-th gulab jamun in my mouth. No force in this universe can stop me! Not even myself. However sometimes I do wish that the food was a bit healthier than just being oily or sugary. That way I could have more of the good things in life without worrying about becoming fat.

Mirage, the poolside resto-bar of The Stadel is a great place to hangout with friends & family alike. The setting is marvellous, with the swimming pool in the backdrop adding to the charm. Have been here a couple of times. Recently PanchPhoron was invited over to try the dishes from the special Rooster menu.

If you are a Bengali staying around Kolkata it's very unlikely that you haven't heard of 'Swissyum'. Yes, that same company which manufactures some of best quality crunchy snacks in eastern India. The company was started around a decade ago in Kolkata. From its manufacturing factory at Rajpur, Swissyum produces some truly mouth watering snacks which are available across the country.

'Bangalir Baro Maas e Tero Parbon' roughly translates in to 'Bengalis celebrate thirteen festivals in twelve months'. The celebrations &accompanied by grand feasts are what we look forward to break away from the monotony of everyday life. It doesn't matter whether the festivals are religious, cultural or geographical we always find a way to overcome the boundary. One such festival has to be Eid-Al-Fitr, which in spite of being a Islamic festival, is celebrated throughout the world.

Have you come across pictures of your friends with delicious dishes inside an aircraft & kept wondering how they managed to gets such great meals. Well that's because they weren't inside a plane at all. Rather they were simply having some good food & clicking some great pictures in Fly Kouzina, an aeroplane themed restaurant in Salt Lake, Kolkata.

The Pride Plaza Hotel, Rajarhat hardly requires any introduction to the people in and around New Town, Rajarhat. Located right in the business district, this hotel located at The Terminus, opposite Axis Mall is a boon to the corporate hubs located nearby. Seamless blend of modern comforts and traditional hospitality the hotel offers guests a great place of retreat. Not only as a hotel, the banquet also serves as a popular wedding & marriage reception venue.

Balaram Mullick & Radharaman Mullick is a household name thanks to all the radio commercials they air. Even right now when I'm typing the name, the exact tone from the advertisement is ringing in my ears :D. However it's not only the advertising that has made them a popular outlet among the sweetmeat shops in Kolkata (& outside, in US even). It's one of the oldest sweet shops in Kolkata. Generally when we talk of heritage shops they are mostly located in north Kolkata. South Kolkata is considered much younger & surely lacks at least in the numbers of heritage eateries. Not in quality though. Balaram Mullick, Bhowanipur boasts of serving mouth wateringly delicious selection of sweets since 1885. In recent times they have opened branches all throughout Kolkata & even planning to expand overseas.

Does Au Bon Pain require any introduction? Surely not. A well known international cafe bakery chain, it did get itself entangled into some controversy as this particular outlet was replacing 'music world' an iconic destination for the city's music lovers. However the hatred died out soon, & Au Bon Pain established itself as a sought after destination for the Park Street crowd looking for a break from all the hustle bustle of the pub's & restaurants around.

What is the single food item we love the most? A dish that can be had on its own? A dish which doesn't require a starter, side dish or a dessert ? A dish which doesn't require even an introduction? Well, that has to be either a pizza or a biryani. Though to be honest both are best enjoyed with a glass of carbonated drinks, yet for me both are essentially a on dish meal & somehow the biryani gets a bit more preference when I am looking for a simple dinner.
