Paris Cafe, Alipore

I remember during my early days as a zomato user I would just visit their site to find about the pocket pinch of any restaurant was going to visit. Writing a review was a far fetched idea. However one day saw a Facebook post of a friend with amazing pictures of colourful cakes pastries and shakes. Also the ambience looked like a cafe in Paris. Intrigued I checked the tagged location and came to know about this cute little place called Paris cafe which was taking the town by storm with their food and ambience. However the plans to visit never quite worked out. Unfortunate me.
However I literally jumped with joy when came to know that they have opened their new outlet at alipore, quite near to my home. Classic example of 'If the prophet can't come to the mountain, the mountain has to come to the prophet's :P. This time there no excuse. The best part was even before I planned to pay them a visit, the owner, Sneha Singhi invited PanchPhoron for a food tasting event at the newly opened outlet.

Located at the alipore State Bank Crossing, the outlet is hard to miss. With the white coloured wrought iron chairs outside the cafe it gives them a truely Parisian look. However the outlet is quite a bit small. The inside can seat around 12 people. You can seat at the tables outside, however I don't think that would be a great idea during the scorching Kolkata summers. May be those are meant for the lazy winter afternoons. At one end of the cafe you will find the glass showcases filled with the colourful pastries & cakes they are famous for. The walls are plastered with wallpapers with small floral motifs which again will surely give you the feel of a certain French charm. Some selected marble pieces & a mirror with a vintage frame adorns the walls. Certainly the outlet has the requisite vibes of a Parisian cafe.
Now coming to the food the owner had chosen some select items from the menu, which are their signature dishes. A brief review of the items we tried is given below.

1. Involtini De funghi:
Thin slices of mushroom & grated Parmesan cheese rolled into a highly enjoyable Italian delicacy. The mushrooms & cheese both complemented each other in a way I would remember for a long time. Great in taste. Recommended.

2. Mac & Cheese Sandwich:
Yumm Yumm. Grilled macaroni & cheese sandwiched between lightly toasted crispy breads, the ultimate comfort food for a foodie who loves macaroni & cheese.

3. Mushroom crepe & egg:
Another must try item from the menu, this one is for the egg lover. The delicious crepes just melted in the mouth, while the flavour of the mushroom kept lingering on.

4. Cannelloni scrued with saffron sauce:
A certain variety of pasta, baked with fillings & covered with saffron sauce. Like the other items this too was an amazing one. Specially the saffron sauce was the perfect topping.

5. Creamy mushroom on toast:
Another mushroom dish, & boy another amazing one. In fact this was the first time I had tried so many mushroom dishes & loved each & every one of them. Cooked in a creamy sauce & served in a toast, it was yet another winner.

6. Doughnut shake:
Chocolate shake served in a bottle, with a doughnut on top & drizzled with chocolate sauce. A killer concept. Great in taste, loved by all.

7. Red velvet shake:
The red velvet cake by Paris cafe itself is quite phenomenal. To serve that along with a shake was yet another masterstroke. Sweet, flavorful and must order.

8. Birthday cake shake:
Vanilla milk shake served in a bottle, with a wedge of vanilla cake with layers of vanilla cream & colourful sprinkles lightly drizzled on top. This one looked gorgeous. But the taste not quite upto the mark. Seemed like sipping milk with cake. Maybe it's meant to be that way, but did not suit my taste.

Overall really loved the food. The pocket pinch is a bit on the other side for sure, but you pay for what you get. Amazing tastes & innovations do not come cheap. Will definitely recommend to people looking for light snacks & a hangout place. Am going back as soon as they introduce their cheese platter.
Till then,
Happy Eating,
Cheers!
